Confederation Bridge

The Fixed Link
At 13 km the Confederation Bridge spanning the Northumberland Strait between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island is the longest continuous span bridge in the western hemisphere. At its highest point the structure rises 60 m over the waters of the Strait. The name "Confederation Bridge" was adopted in recognition of Prince Edward Island's role in hosting the Charlottetown Conference which led to the creation of the Dominion of Canada (ie. Mount Allison University

National Standing
Founded in 1840, Mount Allison is an undergraduate, liberal arts and science university with an enrollment of 2,100 full-time and 300 part-time students. It is known nationally for its fine arts, music and commerce departments. Maclean's magazine has consistently ranked Mount Allison as "the number-one small university in Canada".

In 1875 Mount Allison became the first university in the British Empire to grant a Bachelor's degree to a woman (Grace Annie Lockhart). The first summer school in Atlantic Canada was established in 1924. More recently, in 1992, Mount Allison was the first university in Canada to link its residence rooms to the Internet.
