DISCOVERING THE WATERWAYS OF TANTRAMAR
|
||
Tidal River Route Gaspereau RiverThis waterway is well protected by high riverbanks capped by boreal forest. A gentle current makes it a good route for novice paddlers. Beyond tidehead, the river narrows and water depth falls. The Gaspereau turns into a wilderness river. During spring run-off, this section can be traversed only by canoe. Launch from the Centennial Park riverbank (Shemogue Rd.), or at the Port Elgin Wharf. Collins Lake, just off Highway 15 near Shemogue, provides access during spring run. Flat Water Canoeing Sackville areaThe area surrounding Sackville and near the Tantramar Marsh provides opportunities for several different kinds of canoe excursions. Morice Pond (also known as Silver Lake), situated on Rte. 940 in Middle Sackville, is a recreational boating area which can be used by novice paddlers. Canoes can be launched at Lillas Fawcett Park.
