DISCOVERING THE MARSHES OF TANTRAMAR

Trans-Canada/New Brunswick Trail

From Port Elgin to Sackville

This route links Port Elgin with Sackville via the original right-of-way of the New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island Railway.

Near Baie Verte, the route passes through fresh-water and salt-water marsh habitat. Deer, moose, fox and other woodland creatures can be observed along the route, as well as colourful wildflowers, and a variety of songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. Goodwin Pond in Baie Verte is recognized as containing more birds per acre than any other pond in New Brunswick.

Approaching Sackville the route skirts the Tantramar Marsh, the largest dyked marshland in North America, passing the High Marsh Road covered bridge and Tintamarre National Wildlife Area.
