DISCOVERING THE MARSHES OF TANTRAMAR

Trans-Canada/New Brunswick Trail

From Sackville to Port Elgin

This route links Sackville with Port Elgin via the original right-of-way of the New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island Railway.

Leaving Sackville the route skirts the Tantramar Marsh, the largest dyked marshland in North America, passing the High Marsh Rd. covered bridge and Tintamarre National Wildlife Area.

Deer, moose, fox and other woodland creatures can be observed along the route, as well as colourful wildflowers, and a variety of songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. Near Baie Verte, the trail passes through fresh-water and salt-water marsh habitat. Goodwin Pond is recognized as containing more birds per acre than any other pond in New Brunswick.
